Ms. G

Occasionally I’ll have a woman do a boudoir shoot with me who really wants to be able to show off her images, but for professional reasons doesn’t want her face to be shown.  This was the case with Ms. G, but thankfully I am able to share with you some of the detail shots that we did.  I think you’ll agree that she has absolutely nothing to hide, lol!

Max and Sam

Earlier this month I got to go back to California where I’m from and spend a week with my family.  It had been two years since I’d been out there, which was way too long!  One of the reasons for going was to finally meet my newest nephew, Max, who was already 10 months old!  My brother and sister in law had told me what a happy, smiley baby he is and they weren’t exaggerating!  Look at that face!

My brother, David, giving Max a zerbert as his brother, Sam, looks on; how can you look at that face and not smile?:

Here’s one of Sam and the puppy we gave him two years ago, now all grown up:

This is what they both looked like two years ago when Sam came to NC to pick him up:

Heather and Christopher’s Wedding

This past Saturday I was privileged to shoot the wedding of Heather and Christopher.  They’re such a laid back, easy going couple and their wedding definitely reflected that.  The ceremony and reception were at University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill.  It’s one of my favorite churches in the area to shoot at because it’s so open and airy inside with beautiful natural light, and it’s right on Franklin Street which is great for more urban shots.  Rather than have an long, elaborate reception, Heather and Christopher decided to have something  more casual with a simple fruit and dessert buffet.  Family, friends and food, who needs more?  I thought it suited them perfectly.  And because the reception was fairly short, we were able to wait until it was over to do our portrait session and take our time with it.  Here’s a few highlights from the day:

Guys have it so easy!  Do you think they have any idea at all of everything that we put ourselves through to look great the day of our wedding? : )

Heather was incredibly laid back for a bride on the day of her wedding.  If there were any nerves, she sure didn’t show it!  You have to love  the hot pink hair dryer!

Rather than having matching dresses, all of Heather’s ladies were dressed in different shades of pink:

Heather’s bridesmaids did a little dance in the parking lot to scuff up the bottom of their shoes:

Heather and her ladies getting ready:

I absolutely love this shot of the ring bearer sitting next to the two flower girls!  This little guy was absolutely adorable and had the cutest expressions!:

Isn’t the church pretty?:

Because their reception was fairly short, we decided to wait until it was over to do our portrait session.  I’m sure those of you who went to UNC will recognize this bench!:

I think there’s something so beautiful in the simplicity of an all white bouquet:

Because it was so hot that day, we decided to go back inside the church to do most of our portraits.  There are twin staircases there with the most beautiful natural light:

Doesn’t she look gorgeous?:

Although this a different angle for a portrait, I love the geometrical lines that the stairway creates to frame Heather and Christopher:

Congratulations again, you two!

Irises

When it comes to gardening, I am what you might call reluctant.  Okay, so I hate it.  My abhorrence  of spending time with plants getting my hands dirty began as a child.  My parents were really into vegetable gardening, so as children, one of our chores every weekend was to weed.  For hours.  Literally.  Ugh!  It was so boring and tedious.  I was convinced weekends should be spent riding my pony, Sunshine, and playing in the woods instead.  Fast forward a few umpteen years and what’s one of my husband’s favorite hobbies?  Yup, gardening.  He’s developed a beautiful flower garden at the front of our property.  I love to do shoots out there and it’s very peaceful to walk through on a pretty spring evening, but please don’t ask me to do anything more than that!  Last year, however,  on the spur of the moment, I ordered a dozen iris bulbs from Holland.  I’ve always loved how they look, they remind me of ladies dressed in fancy, frilly ballgowns.  When the bulbs arrived, it was the wrong time of year to plant them, so I had to wait several months.  Then after I finally got to plant them, I had to wait all winter for them to come up and start to bloom.  Talk about delayed gratification!  By the time they finally started blooming, I had totally forgotten what colors they even were supposed to be.  I’ve had so much fun watching them over the past few weeks!  Noticing as their buds first began to develop and trying to guess what color they were, seeing them finally open, I’ve been like a kid practically jumping up in down with excitement!  Who knew gardening could be so fun?  I’m still not convinced weeding is not a form of torture, but the irises are cool!  Here’s a picture of my favorite so far (there are still 4 plants that haven’t bloomed yet):

And a pretty yellow one:
